WorkFlow Engine

A Workflow, or Workflow-process defines the predetermined succession of work steps, or activities, executed by various users of a common system who differ in terms of rights, tasks and access rights.
Workflow is used to implement applications that are modeled as business processes. Classic workflow applications include forms routing/approval, document review/publishing, and issue tracking. While you can implement such applications in nearly any programming language or development environment, you can simplify the task with the use of a workflow engine and specialized workflow modeling tools.
Whether you are a business analyst or a developer, you can use workflow designer to easily change the implementation of a business process as the need arises. Elsa BPM 2006 Workflow designer also enables you to define the overall design, or "flow," of a business process in a simple, high-level graphical representation. You can modify or extend the process definition easily without rewriting all of the low-level application code.
The built-in workflow engine in Elsa BPM 2007 executes and manages individual instances of a process definition.
In short, integration with Elsa BPM 2007 Server makes it easy to achieve business process automation and integration. The Workflow Engine allow workflows to be managed easily; applications can model the frequently changing business processes with less effort.

Rule Engine

Business is complex. But a well-designed process engine can handle much of that complexity itself. Elsa BPM 2007 provides an integrated framework — a proficient engine and interface — through which companies design, build, compose and manage their unique business processes.
Business rules are statements that govern the conduct of business processes. The rules engine framework enables companies to independently and seamlessly change code, processes and rules. It does this by combining a powerful inference-driven Business Rule Engine with a declarative model that allows companies to separate implementation details from the business logic in their rules. Companies can update rules and the policies that contain them without having to update code as they would in a traditional development cycle.
True to the e-business vision of connecting people to relevant data, the rules engine framework offers a graphical user interface that developers, business analysts and administrators can all use to efficiently develop and apply rules and policies. Developers can create vocabularies and bind business logic to data; business analysts can change policies practically in real time; and administrators can deploy and manage policies, and monitor them.
